Backpack Buddies

Providing Meals

and Changing Lives

Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects millions of children worldwide. A lack of nutritious food can not only lead to physical health problems but also impact a child's ability to focus and perform well in school. Recognizing this urgent need, Heritage Baptist Church Annapolis launched a program called Backpack Buddies (BPB) 14 years ago. The aim? To provide elementary school-aged children with weekend food and combat food insecurity.

Over the years, BPB has grown and made a significant impact on the lives of many children. Currently, the program is supporting over 60 children at Mills-Parole Elementary and Georgetown East Elementary, providing them with weekly food. This academic year, BPB is expected to deliver a whopping 16,800 meals to children in need. The results are heartening; the children who receive these meals have shown improved school attendance and better mental and physical behavior. They are also more focused in the classroom, thus improving their academic performance.

The success of the BPB program wouldn't have been possible without the support of the community. The program relies heavily on donations to continue its mission of fighting food insecurity. That's where you can make a huge difference.
