PReschool Director :
Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis, MD, is seeking a director to build and grow our preschool. The Heritage Learning Center has been nurturing and teaching young children in the Annapolis area for over 35 years. Now in a post-pandemic restructuring, we are eager to find an energetic, highly organized leader to help us with a ground-up approach to early learning that is creative, thoughtful, and intentional. PURPOSE AND MISSION
The Heritage Learning Center (HLC) is an active ministry of the weekday children’s programming of Heritage Baptist Church (HBC). The Director of the HLC will provide administrative leadership that enables HLC to fulfill its purpose of providing a Thoughtful,
Intentional and Creative learning environment that nurtures each child’s spiritual, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development. The Director will operate under the guidance of the Associate Pastor of HBC and the Heritage Learning Center committee and work in partnership with the Church.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operate HLC in compliance with MSDE Minimum Standards for Childcare Centers,
HBC church policies and other applicable Federal and State regulations.
2. Manage the annual enrollment process. Includes developing marketing and advertising media to generate interest and increased visibility. Participate in social media & website activities.
3. Build and maintain the annual operating budget, which involves recommending a competitive annual tuition schedule. All budgets to be approved and managed in conjunction with the Heritage Learning Center committee and HBC Finance committee. Report the HLC budget at the appropriate HBC business meetings throughout the year.
4. Create strategies to attract and retain a qualified team of preschool educators; manage the recruiting process and make final hiring decisions in conjunction with the
Associate Pastor.
5. Maintain a current procedure manual and job descriptions. Conduct ongoing assessments and annual performance appraisals for all staff; & execute compensation decisions within budgetary limitations.
6. Ensure the health and well-being of the staff through coaching, conflict resolution, and professional development. Hold routine staff meetings and training to review goals, disseminate information, and address time-sensitive subjects.
7. Create a safe and nurturing environment conducive to early childhood development; includes implementing the chosen curriculum and providing age-appropriate play, art, and learning experiences in a classroom structure.
8. Ensure that each class introduces children to mathematics, language, science, social studies, and faith education in an age-appropriate manner.
9. Prioritize the health and safety of the children related to illness, emergencies, weather, & disasters safely and professionally. D document & practice safety drills and communicate delays or closures with staff and parents. Attend to sick or injured children without delay.
10. Develop and encourage open lines of communication with staff, parents, and children. Address and resolve all parent complaints and staff concerns and implement communication tools to inform parents of curriculum and school events.
11. Communicate efficiently and consistently with HLC staff and HBC pastoral staff & administration, HLC, and Finance committees; includes providing updates at weekly HBC staff meetings, monthly H LC committee meetings, and quarterly church business meetings.
12. Present program changes, such as hours of operations, curriculum, tuition, or other major changes to the HBC staff and H LC committee for approval.
13. Cultivate relationships between the school and church. Invite and encourage enrolled families to participate in weekly and seasonal ministries and activities of
HBC.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university combined with 24 semester hours of early childhood or child development.
Prefer 2+ years of directorship experience at an early childhood facility with multiple classrooms and programs.
Minimum 3 -5 years of hands-on childcare teaching experience.
Meets requirements of a qualified childcare center director as mandated by MSDE’s minimum standards for childcare licensing, as well as a criminal background screening and fingerprinting.
Comprehensive knowledge of child development & education theories.
Strong business acumen, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask.
Patience, enthusiasm, and empathy to work with young children.
Robust communication skills.
Believe in and support the mission of Heritage Baptist Church.
Abiding faith in God & active involvement in a local Christian church.
Experience with MS Office Suite.
Childcare management software experience preferred.
